Google to Tie Up With Indian DTH Providers to Broadcast YouTube Directly on TV

Google to Tie Up with Indian DTH Providers to Stream YouTube on TV

Google want to cash India's increasing market of DTH service. To capture more and more people of India, Google is planning to bring YouTube on TV screens via DTH (Direct-To-Home) providers.

Franciso Verala of YouTube on Global Strategy

On his first trip to India, Global Director of Platform Partnerships, Francisco Varela said, "Google is making a big push to boost YouTube usage in India and is in talks with direct-to-home cable providers to bring the service to televisions screens". However, Varela didn't named the DTH providers with whom he is in talk nor he elaborate on how this integration will be done or when the service will go live.

YouTube makes a major portion of Google’s revenues, which crossed $50 billion (about Rs 3.1 lakh crore) in 2012. As per Varela, India is one of the fastest growing market for YouTube video services. Almost 55 million visitors of global 1 billion visitors come from India on YouTube.

The major DTH providers in India are Dish TV, Tata Sky, Airtel Digital TV, Videocon D2H, Reliance Digital TV and Sun Direct. And according to TRAI, there are around 54 million DTH subscribers in India at the end of 2012. With the support of DTH providers, YouTube would be able to penetrate directly into 54 million Indian DTH subscribers.

But the time will tell what technology Google will be using to provide YouTube streaming on DTH and whether it would require internet connection or not. But as channels streaming on DTH does not require any Internet connection, our hope and thought is that there would be no requirement for high speed broadband connection to stream YouTube on TV via DTH.

As of now Microsoft is releasing security updates for Windows XP, but due to security issues and to move more users from XP to Windows 8, Microsoft has decided to stop updates in 2014. According to Gartner prediction, more than 15% of medium and large enterprises will still have Windows XP running on at least 10% of their PCs after Microsoft support ends in April 2014.
